THE COMPARISON OF CONJUNCTION BETWEEN INDONESIAN AND THAI

Abstract

The conjunction of Indonesian and Thai are words to combine words, utterances, and sentences. This study describes, firstly, the forms and functions of conjunction in Indonesian and Thai. The next is to describe the differences and similarities of conjunction between Indonesian and Thai. As descriptive qualitative study, it analyzes data from books and scientific articles. This study shows that, in Thai, cheuam-pra’-yok-kab-pra’-yok, “inter-clauses conjunction”, combines paragraphs. This form has similiratity with the conjunction of inter-sentences in Indonesian. In the two languages, the function of the conjunctions are to combine and express an event in a sentence. However, in Thai, the inter-paragraphs conjuntion is categorized into conjunction in general, kam-san-than-ceuam-pra’yok-kab-pra’yok. In Indonesian, such conjunction is independent as the conjunction of inter-paragraphs.
