Abstract
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows are the last two novels of Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling. Harry Potter is a serial novel tells about the life of magical society, which also represents the problems of real social life. Blood purity is the most peculiar issue among the other issues described in the novel. Blood purity is a concept that is created on the basis of political interest, in which then creates social classes. Through social class system, people are grouped according to their blood lines. It then leads to a social discrimination, in which the upper classes always expel the lower classes and treat them arbitrarily. This article has three problems to discuss: the first is the social discrimination represented in the novels, the second is the ideology constructed in the novels, and the third is the politics beyond discrimination. We use qualitative research method for this article to examine the analysis. This article begins with the analysis of the novel and applies Stuart Hall’s theory of representation. We analyze the structure of the novels which construct the discourse of social discrimination. This analysis results an explanation of the discourse of social discrimination represented in the novels which later becomes a critique towards the social class system in British society, especially the upper class society whom, at times, benefits their position to act arbitrarily against the lower class. The image of discrimination constructs the author’s ideology which reveals that the novel is a critique towards the pattern of societal life in which the social class system itself is formed due to the political interest of a group of people who aim to dominate society.

Abstrak
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince dan Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows merupakan dua novel terakhir dari serial Harry Potter yang ditulis oleh J.K Rowling. Harry Potter adalah novel seri yang menceritakan tentang kehidupan penduduk sihir yang juga menggambarkan permasalahan dalam kehidupan sosial yang nyata. Kemurnian darah adalah masalah yang paling pelik di antara permasalahan lainnya yang digambarkan di dalam novel tersebut. Kemurnian darah merupakan sebuah konsep yang diciptakan berdasarkan kepentingan politik, yang kemudian membentuk kelas-kelas sosial. Melalui sistem kelas sosial, masyarakat dikelompokkan berdasarkan garis keturunan mereka. Hal ini kemudian menyebabkan diskriminasi sosial, yang mana masyarakat kelas atas selalu mengucilkan masyarakat kelas bawah dan memperlakukan mereka semena-mena. Artikel ini memiliki tiga permasalahan yang dibahas: pertama adalah diskriminasi sosial yang digambarkan di dalam novel, kedua adalah ideologi yang terbentuk di novel tersebut, dan yang ketiga adalah unsur politik dibalik diskriminasi. Artikel ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif untuk memeriksa analisisnya. Artikel ini diawali dengan analisis dari novel dan menggunakan teori representasi oleh Stuart Hall. Kami menganalisis struktur novel yang membentuk wacana-wacana diskriminasi sosial. Analisis ini menghasilkan penjelasan tentang wacana diskriminasi sosial yang digambarkan di dalam novel yang kemudian menjadi sebuah kritik terhadap sistem kelas sosial di masyarakat Inggris, terutama masyarakat kelas atas yang sewaktu-waktu memanfaatkan posisi mereka untuk bertindak sewenang-wenang terhadap masyarakat kelas bawah. Gambaran diskriminasi tersebut membentuk ideologi penulis yang menyatakan bahwa novel tersebut merupakan suatu kritik terhadap pola kehidupan bermasyarakat yang mana sistem kelas sosial sendiri dibentuk karena kepentingan politik sekelompok orang yang bertujuan menguasai masyarakat.
