ABSTRACT
This research uncovers power represented by Abraham Lincoln as the main character in Lincoln movie. For uncovering the power representation by Lincoln, theory of Discourse Analysis combined with Systemic Functional Linguistics Focusing on the transitivity, mood and modality analysis by Halliday (1994) are applied. The theory of power by Fairclough (1989) is also applied to know the power represented by Lincoln in this movie. This research is qualitative and quantitative research using mixed method. The data are in the form of subtitle of Lincoln movie which focuses on the negotiation between Lincoln and his cabinet and Lincoln and the democrat members for legalizing the 13th amendment. From the selected clauses in Lincoln’s dialogue, Lincoln represents his power through the linguistic choice he uses in the negotiation . His power representation is seen through the dominant process which is material process. Using this type of process, he represents himself as the actor who is able to act upon people and things. In terms of mood analysis, the most dominant mood which is declarative mood, makes him as the giver information and place others as the receiver of the information. In this declarative mood, he mostly declares his action towards slavery and information related to the slavery, the amendment, and the rebels. Related to the result of dominant modality, Lincoln mostly uses modality showing probability in his proposition. Through his linguistics choice, Lincoln represents his power as the president to influence other people to support the legality of the 13th amendment.

ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini mengungkap representasi kekuasaan oleh Abaraham Lincoln sebagai karakter utama di film Lincoln. Untuk mengungkap representasi kekuasaan oleh Lincoln, penelitian ini menerapkan teori Analisa Wacana yang di kombinasikan dengan Systemic Functional Linguistics berfokus pada analisa transitiviti, mood dan modaliti oleh Halliday (1994). Teori kekuasaan oleh Fairclough (1989) juga diterapkan untuk mengetahui kekuasaan yang direpresentasikan oleh Lincoln dalam film ini. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dan kuantitatif yang menerapkan metode penelitian campuran. Data penelitian ini berupa subtitle film Lincoln yang berfokus pada negosiasi antara Lincoln dan kabinetnya dan Lincoln dan anggota partai demokrat untuk melegalkan amandemen ke 13. Dari klausa-klausa yang telah dipilih dalam dialog Lincoln, Lincoln merepreesntasikan kekuasaanya melalui pemilihan bahasa yang dia gunakan dalam negosiasi tersebut. Representasi kekuasaannya terlihat melalui penggunaan dominan process yaitu process material. Menggunakan process tipe ini, Lincoln merepresentasikan dirinya sebagai pelaku yang mampu bertindak pada orang lain dan hal-hal lain. Dalam kaitannya dengan analisa mood, mood deklaratif sebagai dominan mood membuat Lincoln sebagai pemberi informasi dan menempatkan orang lain sebagai penerima informasi. Dalam penggunaan mood deklaratif ini, Lincoln lebih banyak mendeklarasikan tindakannya terhadap perbudakan dan informasi tentang perbudakan, amandemen dan para pemberontak. Dalam kaitannya dengan dominan modaliti, Lincoln lebih banyak menggunakan modaliti yang menunjukkan kemungkinan dalam pernyataannya. Melalui pemilihan bahasanya, Lincoln merepresentasikan kekuasaanya sebagai president untuk mempengaruhi orang lain untuk mendukung amandemen ke 13.
