Abstract
This article discusses fashion discourse and power constructed in Lauren Weisberger’s The Devil Wears Prada published in 2003. In this research there are three research questions. The first question is about how the fashion discourse is constructed in the novel. The second question is about how the power operates in the novel. The third question is about what is the relationship between fashion discourse in the novel and fashion discourse in the context of American society. This research is qualitative research. Documentary method is also used in this analysis. To analyze the construction of fashion discourses and the operation of power, we apply Foucauldian discourse theory through a genealogy analysis. From the analysis, it can be concluded that Andrea’s fashion discourse is able to blur the regime of truth of Miranda’s fashion discourse. The new variants of fashion are applied by Andrea through her fashion discourse that are acceptable and has contributions to the context of American fashion discourse. From the genealogy analysis, it shows that Andrea’s fashion discourse represents American fashion discourse that has identical dresses of casual style as a social symbol of middle class or working class.

Abstrak
Artikel ini membahas tentang wacana fashion dan kekuasaan yang dikonstruksi dalam novel karya Lauren Weisberger yang berjudul The Devil Wears Prada terbitan tahun 2003. Dalam artikel ini terdapat tiga pertanyaan. Pertanyaan pertama mengenai bagaimana wacana fashion dikonstruksikan di dalam novel. Pertanyaan kedua mengenai bagaimana kekuasaan beroperasi di dalam novel. Pertanyaan ketiga mengenai bagaimana hubungan antara wacana fashion di dalam novel dengan wacana fashion di dalam konteks masyarakat Amerika. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode dokumenter. Untuk menganalisis konstruksi wacana fashion dan operasi kekuasaan, kami menggunakan teori wacana Foucauldian melalui analisis genealogi. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa wacana fashion Andrea mampu mengaburkan rezim kebenaran dari wacana fashion Miranda. Variasi-variasi fashion yang baru diaplikasikan oleh Andrea melalui wacana fashion nya yang dapat diterima dan memiliki kontribusi pada konteks wacana fashion masyarakat Amerika. Dari analisis genealogi ini menunjukkan bahwa wacana fashion Andrea merepresentasikan wacana fashion masyarakat Amerika yang identik dengan gaya kasual sebagai simbol sosial dari kelas menengah atau kelas pekerja.
