Women in Two Worlds (The Existence of Women Workers at PTPN XII Pancur Angkrek in the Year 1998-2012

ABSTRACT

 

 

This research discusses the Women in Two Worlds (The Existence of Women Workers at PTPN XII Pancur Angkrek in the Year 1998-2012) in the village of Sumbercanting, Botolinggo District, Bondowoso viewed from the economic aspect and the division of roles of women workers. The aim of this study was to explore, to examine critically, and to describe analytically the background of the women of Sumbercanting village who worked as laborers in PTPN XII Pancur Angkrek, the position of women in the workplace and in the family, the constraints experienced by women workers in improving the economy of the family, and the impact of the involvement of women laborers worked in plantations Pancur Angkrek in sustaining the family economy. The method use in this research is the historical method applying the heuristic stage, source criticism (both internal and external criticism), interpretation and historiography. Monetary crisis era in 1998 resulted in skyrocketing of the basic needs that must be fulfilled by each family, thus causing more women in the Sumbercanting village chose to work on plantations in order to help their husband to earn their earnings. The dual role should be taken by women workers in two of her worlds. Women in Sumbercanting village worked as laborers in Pancur Angkrek Plantations to increase the economy of the family. For their families, the women workers had a role as wives for their husbands and as mothers for their children.
