GREETINGS AND ADDRESSINGS IN JAVANESE LANGUAGE IN BAKALREJO VILLAGE, DISTRICT OF SUGIO, LAMONGAN REGENCY (A SOCIOPRAGMATIC STUDY)

Abstract

This paper discusses greetings and addressings in Javanese language in District of Sugio, Lamongan from sosiopragmatic aspect. It aimed to describe the forms and uses of the greetings and addressings. This research was conducted in three stage. The fist stage was data collection using interview. The second stage was data analysis using pragmatic equivalence method. The third stage was data presentations using formal and informal methods. The results showed that greetings are expressed in the forms of words (verb and adjectives), phrases and phatic markers while addressings have six forms, namely: first personal pronouns, second personal pronouns, nouns of proper name, kinship, title or position, physical characteristics and properties. Greetings are used in the context of four utterances: meeting with others, expressing attentions to others’ condition, engaging in a particular event, and fulfilling of politeness. Greetings are used in various contexts of utterances such us showing intimacy, kinship, and position of the addressees.
