THE USE OF DICTION AND IDIOLECT MANTRA AT JOGOYUDAN VILLAGE, SUBDISTRICT LUMAJANG, LUMAJANG REGENCY, EAST JAVA

ABSTRACT

Mantra is oral tradition used to ask help from super natural power and to encounter other magical power. In the using of diction, this article discuss about connotative meaning, correct and matching words; also using idiolect of the mantra make it interesting and sacredness. The sources of data comes from wizard who lives in Jogoyudan village. This research use qualitative research which consist of method and data gathering technique, method and data analysis technique and finally method and data analysis result presentation technique. The result of research there are nine kinds of mantra, there are rain repellent mantra, medication mantra, request mantra, heart bonding mantra, semar mesem mantra, jaran goyang mantra, bathing mantra, bussines boosting mantra and baby calming mantra. Based on the analysis conducted, it can be concluded that the two mantra’s which do not have connotative meaning are medication and request mantra. The idiolect dominantly found in mantra is anaphora repetetion.
